Where does the directory data come from?
Every record comes from bulk official data: the Hawaii Department of Health Office of Health Care Assurance's licensing rosters and inspection-report index, and CMS Care Compare for nursing homes; we never copy facility websites or aggregator listings.
Rosters were downloaded October 31, 2026. Inspection reports are matched to licenses by facility name, and where a match is uncertain we say so. Star ratings appear only for nursing homes and only as CMS publishes them.
Which facilities have their own pages?
Every licensed assisted living facility (14) and every CMS-certified nursing home (27) has its own page; care homes appear as rows on the sortable roster because each is a small private home with only a few public data points.
Use the roster's town and license-type filters to narrow the list, then call homes or ask an advisor about openings.
What does the directory leave out, and why?
The directory leaves out ratings of our own, operators' personal names, care home street addresses and individual foster family homes, because the state does not rate care homes and because most small homes are private residences.
It also leaves out unlicensed settings, such as independent living buildings without an assisted living license, and home care agencies, which Hawaii does not license in the same way. Medicare-certified home health agencies and hospices can be checked on CMS's comparison tools. If you find a licensed Oahu setting missing from our lists, tell us; we rebuild the directory each time the state posts a new roster.
How should we use the directory with an advisor?
Use the directory to see every licensed option in the area you want, check each one's license and inspection record, and then share a shortlist with an advisor, who can find out which homes have openings at your parent's level of care.
Openings in small homes change week to week, and no public list shows them. An advisor's job is to save the phone calls; the directory's job is to let you check every suggestion against the state's own record.
